About Our Engine

Headquarters Engine Co. 8

Restored in 1996 and currently owned and operated by the members of Beyond The Fire Line, this 1953 Maxim Model 1417 triple combination 750 GPM pumper (Serial # 1891) was the former Engine 8 that was assigned to Headquarters Co. 8 of the Branford Fire Department in Branford, CT where it ran as their first line piece for over 20 years.

The iron workhorse, that was manufactured by the Maxim Motor Company of Middleboro, MA served Company 8 volunteers from their quarters on John St. from 1953 until 1963 when it was reassigned to Branford's new Central Fire Headquarters facility on North Main St. and staffed by career firefighters. It was decommissioned and parked in a local junkyard in 1983 until it was rescued several years later.
